Thiên Bình Orphanage 

 

Location: 138 Thien Binh Area, Tam Phuoc Village, Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province, Vietnam.
Number of orphans: Over 100, some of them have physical and mental illnesses.

This orphanage belongs to the Thien Binh Parish Catholic Church, established in 1968. It received official paper on April 2009. The orphanage has 130 orphans and some elders. Some of the children are handicap and/or mental illness (including agent orange). The director is father Nguyen Van Uy, day-to-day operation is run by a group of dedicated nuns led by Sister Nhàn. Sister Sumalee is from Thailand and has lived in Vietnam for over 25 years. The orphanage has many programs to support the kids:

  • Nursery with imported fruit trees and vines from Thailand
  • Raise pigs and chickens
  • Plant vegetable
  • Run a school.

We visited Thien Binh orphanage in the past 3 years:

  • We donated money and gifts on annual trip since 2008
  • Signed agreement in July 2009 to sponsor the orphanage with quarterly monetary support.
  • Purchased 5 PC’s for Thien Binh orphanage and recruited students from Vietnam National University to each computer to the children.
  • The proceed from fundraising event in Austin is used to purchase additional 10 PC’s, slide projector, scan/cop/printer for Thien Binh
  • Purchased a washing machine from a generous donor.

Wish List:

  • Provide 1 year of English teaching for the high school students, estimate cost is $1000.
  • Provide 1 year of computer programming language teaching for the high school students, estimate cost is $2000.
